Spent the day at Apple iPhone Tech Talk in Santa Clara. The keynote is more like a motivational seminar. Telling us why the iPhone App Store ecosystem is great. There are some useful nuggets such as what Apple considers to be the 7 themes for a great app:
- Delightful
- Innovative
- Designed
- Integrated
- Optimized
- Connected
- Localized
Then he proceeded to introduce some examples of “nice” apps in the App Store, or what I would call The World According to Apple:
- Urbanspoon
- Peaks
- ZipCar
- SnapTell
- Postage – Award for UI Design. Attention to details.
- TimeTuner – Location-aware alarm clock radio. Excellent “fit-and-finish.”
- WeightBot – Animation and sound.
- Tweetie 2 – “less-is-more.” UI that automatically loads more tweets as you drag to the end/beginning of the list. Swipe to get more options.
- Guitar Toolkit – On-screen animation.
- 1112 – Episodic game. Artwork. Multi-touch interaction. Myst-like. Even objects that aren’t central to the game are life-like. Note that they do have a Lite version available as a free download.
- Ocarina – Musical instrument. Social networking.
- RoamBI – Business Intelligence done right.
- Things – Sync data with desktop companion / augmenting app.
- MLB At Bat 2009 – Apple design aware winner. Constantly looking for more data from the cloud. There is a Lite / Free version available as well.
- Flick Sports Fishing – Looking for ohter iPhones to play game with.
- myStarbucks – Transmit order to your buddy’s phone.
- Ramp Champ – Keep customers coming back for more with add-on packs (in-app purchase).
